Wheelchair accessible taxi / van in Tokyo

For a same-day metered JPN TAXI, call Nihon Kotsu on 050-3101-6999 (24 hours) or Hinomaru on 03-3814-1111 and say you need to stay in the wheelchair. Nihon Kotsu's English line is +81(0)50 3116 4791. Allow about 15 minutes to board. Nihon Kotsu also lets you pick a wheelchair vehicle in the GO app.

GO's wheelchair category works in Tokyo for an immediate ride only. Reservation is not available in the app. Choose a flat, wide pickup spot so the side or rear ramp can open. The ramp limit GO publishes is 200 kg for the chair, rider, bags, and any helper on the ramp.

Do not rely on Tokyo Musen radio dispatch for a guaranteed ramp taxi. Tokyo Musen runs JPN TAXI cabs that can take a wheelchair plus one attendant, but the dispatch centre (0570-550-555) cannot specify vehicle type. Ask a member company directly, or use Nihon Kotsu, Hinomaru, or GO instead.

Nihon Kotsu is Tokyo's largest taxi group. Its JPN TAXI is the UD cab: a side ramp, two passengers when a wheelchair is on board, and boarding from the kerb so you do not enter the roadway. Tell the 050-3101-6999 operator you need the wheelchair setup. The English fare table lists 500 JPY pickup, 500 JPY to reserve, and 500 JPY for the first 1,000 m.

EDS サポートタクシー is a different product: a weekday pre-book on 050-3160-4453 (9:00-17:00, closed at year-end). It is a time charter, 7,900 yen for the first hour and 3,200 yen per 30 minutes after that, with reservation, pickup, and support charge included. Parking, tolls, and entry fees are extra. Long-term care insurance does not apply, so a visitor can pay the published rate.

Call 03-3814-1111 for an immediate cab. Immediate phone dispatch is 500 yen pickup plus the first 500 yen of the meter. A web booking 3 hours to 2 weeks ahead adds another 500 yen reservation fee.

Tokyo Support is a private-hire welfare van, not a street taxi. The rear lift takes a wheelchair or reclining chair on board. The long-body van holds two wheelchairs and up to eight people. Call 080-4334-0703 (7:00-22:00, every day; 24 hours for emergencies). They advertise hotel, station, and Haneda or Narita pickups, including a Tokyo sightseeing charter.

Published fares (revised November 2023) start at 900 yen for the first 2 km on the meter, or 5,590 yen for the first hour on time charter, then 2,590 yen per 30 minutes. Pickup is 900 yen. A wheelchair loan is free; boarding help is 1,000 yen. Ask for a quote when you book. Email is not published.

Narita's official accessibility page tells wheelchair users to speak to the taxi-rank staff. If you can use a waiting cab they will help you board. If you want a wheelchair-specific vehicle, the rank can call one. If you booked your own cab, meet at the general vehicle pickup or a car park, not the taxi rank.

For a booked van to either airport, use Nihon Kotsu EDS or Tokyo Support and give the flight number. Do not assume a Haneda rank will hold a ramp taxi. Pre-book the van, then meet where the operator tells you.

Japan's long-term care insurance (介護保険) does not apply to Nihon Kotsu EDS, and municipal welfare-taxi tickets are for residents. A 10 percent handbook discount exists when you show a Japanese disability handbook. Short-stay visitors pay the published meter or charter. Do not plan on a resident subsidy.
